| January 2007 seems like such along time ago. Maybe I will be a biannual blogger. Odd years only. I read my nephews and nieces blogs and I am filled with such admiration. There are seven Shackelford cousins and every single one of them are amazing (no lie). They are intelligent and interesting and creative (VERY creative) and so very articulate. They are also very clever and very, very unique, each and every one. Their children are beautiful too. I am so lucky to be related. Actually, they are quite generous to consider me a relation since it has been 30 years since I was married to their father's brother. I am very grateful they still include me in their lives. One of my favorite fantasies is to have my three sons and their seven cousins all together with their families in one place for a week long retreat. (This is at the top of my "If I ever become a millionaire" list.) I would rent a conference center, or lodge and have hired housekeeping and cooking and child care staff available. We would have all of our meals together and have times of discussion inspiration and sharing. We could have "workshops" on topics of mutual interest, skits and a talent show! We could go fishing, rock climbing or on a hike or have a picnic with games and races. We could do craft projects with the kids and make keepsake scrap books and a video. It would be like a Shackelford summer camp! Let's see, there are 8 couples, two singles and 17 children, with two more babies due this year, plus six grandparents. I would like to work with the kids during the day and present the musical "Annie" to the group on the final evening. Oh my what fun we would have!! The kids are the perfect ages. What a dream! I'd pay for everyone's airfare, transportation and all of the accommodations and entertainment. All they would have to do is find the time, which would be hard enough for most of them to do. But it would be so worth it! Yes, of all of my dreams, and I have many, this is, hands down, my favorite fantasy.

| After an absense of several decades, tomorrow I begin classes at College of the Desert. On the advise of my youngest son, Jeremiah, I enrolled in Acting I. He said that it was very "theraputic". It sounds like fun...kind of. It also sounds terrifying. This may suprise you, but I really don't like acting silly in front of a bunch of people. (Although I will do anything for a grandchild). Tomorrow morning will be my first day. Since I graduated before most of my fellow classmates were born it should be interesting. At least the teacher will be my age. I checked. On Tuesday I am hoping to get into a computer "Windows/Bus App" class. First I have to see a counselor so that I can prove I passed English 101. I did. In 1971. On Tuesday nights I will be taken (ahem) fencing. I know. That is wierd too. I cannot explain why feel strangely compelled to learn how to handle a sword. I suppose it will come in handy you know, in case I am ever attacked. Actually I thought it would be a fun way to get some exercise and I fullfill a fantasy at the same time. My fantasy? I would like to challenge any of my six foot sons to a duel, and WIN! Ha! Take that! In between the computer class and Fencing I have several hours so I also signed up for (please don't laugh) ballet. I e-mailed the teacher first. I am taking her advise to give it a try. Balance, posture, coordination and gracefullness have always been particularly challenging for me. I thought that some basic traing of this nature might also help with flexiblity and strength. If I can improve a little in these ways (without breaking anything) it should help my ballroom dancing and will be well worth it. Of course, part of my motivation also has to do with sharing my Grandaughter's interest in Agelina Ballerina. I won't be sharing this information with anyone from my class however. To prepare, I have been studying one of the ballet books I bought for Helen and Bea. Ballet is a serious atheletic endeavor. I fear I may just provide the comic relief for the rest of the class. A 53 year old overweight woman leaping across the room. Hmmm. Not a pretty picture. I just hope the teacher doesn't expect me to wear tights or a leotard. | | |
